The Katy DBT Center is offering a regular outpatient program for adolescents. Each week, teens will participate in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) consisting of:
- A weekly individual therapy session for the adolescent.
- A weekly skills group for the adolescent.
- A weekly multi-family group for the parent(s) and adolescent.
Details
The program starts at $300/week. All services are 1 hour in duration.
More services can be accommodated as needed. It is highly recommended to commit to 6-12 months of the program but not required.
The individual therapy session is a behavioral session where we address the individual needs and out-of-control behaviors of the adolescent. This is where they learn to apply specific skills to their problem behaviors, discuss goals for therapy and learn how to better process strong emotions that are leading to unwanted behaviors.
The skills group is where the adolescent learns the skills needed to stop doing the out-of-control behaviors and increase their effective emotional experiencing. There are many skills and they take practice. The goal is for skills to become new habits, to use skills without having to think about using skills. We play Dungeons & Dragons while learning the skills in this group to provide a fun way to rehearse and role play the skills. This group is optional. If your child is definitely not into D&D they can skip this part of the program.
The multi-family group greatly improves outcomes. It provides an hour a week where parent and child are learning the same skill at the same time. It also provides families with a more balanced responsibility for practicing skills, a shared DBT vocabulary, and even a shared activity in filling out your DBT worksheets if so desired!
